Moral education is high priority says Pallam Raju

New Delhi, Oct 31 : Reviving moral education is high on the list of priorities of new Human Resource Development Minister M.M. Pallam Raju, who took charge Wednesday.

The minister took charge after a traditional puja ceremony, worshiping Tirupati Balaji, believed to be an incarnation of Hindu god Vishnu. 

Raju said "heritage" was India's strength,

and emphasised reinstating the "traditional value system" in the present generation.

Indonesia varsity may have center for indian studies

Bali (Indonesia), Oct 31: An Indonesian university plans to establish a Centre for Indian Studies here next year.

Rector of Udayana University, Made Bakta, said his university was looking forward to strenghtening educational opportunities with Indian universities, especially in the field of science and technology. The university plans to establish a Centre for Indian Studies next year which will facilitate visit by Indian scholars.

Founder of super 30 is 'Peoples hero'

Patna, Oct 31 : Anand Kumar, founder of Super 30, a free coaching centre which trains children from poor families for entry into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology, has added another feather to his cap.

People magazine of the Time magazine group carries, in the Indian edition's latest issue, a detailed feature on the work of Anand Kumar, listing him as a "People's Hero". 

The magazine usually features celebrities and film stars. This is a rare occasion when a teacher has been profiled. 

The People magazine feature details how Anand Kumar, working almost alone for over a decade, has helped 263 children from poor families to make it into the prestigious IITs.

Placement Rates show engineering colleges ignore AICTE

Institutions in the state can function without the approval of the highest accreditation agency for technical education in the country, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), or so it seems.
 
While AICTE last week issued a list of 43 colleges which are functioning without accreditation from it, the state government has failed to issue show cause notices to even one of these institutions.
 
The colleges will thus continue to function, as of now, enjoying their autonomous status while conducting examinations and making placements, releasing results and even granting degrees without approval from AICTE.

MBA graduates have low employability

A national survey on MBA graduates' employability report mentions that the hiring levels are very low. National Employability Report - MBA Graduates, Annual Report 2012 is the source for that.

 It cites a low employability of MBA graduates across specializations. Nearly 2.14 lakh students have applied for 3500 seats through CAT this year, which is just a small chunk of the huge capacity of management education in the country.  While millions put their future at stake, there is an urgent need to audit whether we are training industry-ready individuals. This is truly a challenging time for the MBA graduates. 

Principal's national conference soon!

CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi will be the star speaker at the National Conference of School Principals (NCSP) being organized next month in the Capital, by a private organization. 
 
According to the latest reports, the previous such conferences have attracted academicians from all over the country along with bureaucrats as well.
 
TeacherSITY, in association with Uttrakhand Technical University, CBSE, NCERT and NUEPA is organizing the two day function on November 8 and 9.

CBSE Optional proficiency test next year

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that it shall conduct an optional proficiency test in April next year. This yearly test for Std X students is usually conducted earlier but keeping in mind the additional pressure of board exams, the central board has decided to postpone it to April.
 
CBSE std X final exams are scheduled for March. The test will be in all the five main subjects of English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. 
 
The proposed Proficiency Test will mainly focus on assessing students' abilities and skills to apply knowledge and understanding of the respective subject to new and unfamiliar everyday life situations.
